The film "Slumdog Millionaire" by the British director Danny Boyle is based on the novel "Q&A" by Vikas Swarup. I sort of avoided this movie for a long time, it looked to be all over the place in the trailers I watched., Slumdog is so well acted and directed that I had to admit I was wrong. There ARE points where accusations of "glossing over" the serious flaws in Indian culture are held up to be seen, but this is not a documentary, nor is it an indictment of the many dreadful aspects of modern Indian culture. Cracking film - great story, good acting, beautifully filmed.

Clever use of symbolism throughout - esp the final scene. While I am sure that is sadly closer to the real life experiences of many children in India this did not sit well with the marketing or upbeat hype of the film.
